Lionsgate Fights Paramount Over Greutert

Lionsgate Films and Paramount Pictures are feuding over director Kevin Greutert. Deadline reports that Lionsgate has exercised a contractual option which will see Greutert having to direct Saw 3D (or Saw VII, for those keeping count at home). It was announced last week that Greutert would direct Paranormal Activity 2 for Paramount. Apparently, this ruffled Lionsgate’s feathers, so they’re fighting back. Greutert’s comments can be found here. The two studios are battling for best positioning on the lucrative Halloween 2010 flick season, with both scheduled to open on October 22nd. The surprise hit Paranormal Activity destroyed Saw VI at the box office this past year, grossing close to $150 million over a disappointing $27 million take.
