Horror-101

‘TWO FRONT TEETH’ world-premiere this weekend.

Will you be on the Baltimore/Wash DC area this coming weekend? Why not check out the locally-made indie horror film Two Front Teeth! The film will be premiering at the Spooky Movie Film Festival on Washington DC this Sunday, October 29th at 3pm.

Horror-101 is all about the horror film, but more specifically, we want to be about the indie horror film. In the weeks ahead, I will be telling you about some local indies produced in the Baltimore/DC area (And donGÇÖt forget to contact us and tell us about your indie horror films!). Two Front Teeth is one of these films.

Two Front Teeth is a Christmas-themed horror film written and directed by Frederick, MD-based Jamie Nash. I watched this film at a sneak-preview this past July, and I can tell you itGÇÖs a blast. ItGÇÖs an inspired horror-comedy with a GÇÿcan doGÇÖ indie horror attitude influenced by GÇÿThe X-FilesGÇÖ, and it even pays homage to Mortal Kombat (the game, not the movie, heh)

GÇÿTwas the night before Christmas and Gabe Snow (Johnny Francis Wolf), a reporter for a paranormal tabloid, is working late, investigating the mystery behind the crash of Flight 1225, which he suspects was brought down by a creature with a GÇÿglowing, red noseGÇÖ. Across town, his estranged, bitch-on-wheels wife, Noel (Megan Pearson), is about to have a night of kinky sex with her new boyfriend, when murderous intruders ruin her plans, decapitating the man and setting their sights on her. Soon, Gabe and his wife are reunited, bickering, and on the run from an army of demonic, S&M-leather clad elves. And, my-oh-my, does Santa Claus have a pointy, horrific set of Two Front Teeth or what?

Jamie Nash displays good use of dry wit through the film. And he (with co-director and DP, David Thomas Sckrabulis) manages to do a heck of a lot considering the filmGÇÖs very low budget constraintsGÇöspecifically, an all-knuckles-barred action sequence in which the hellish elves invade a trailer home. I donGÇÖt want to spoil the rest of the experience, but letGÇÖs just say that NashGÇÖs version of GÇÿreinforcements from the VaticanGÇÖ hands down beats out the couple of elderly Roman Catholic priests which your local dioceses would have sent as help.

Two Front Teeth is good, low-budget indie horror fun. And I wonder what Nash has in store for horror fans in the future as he keeps it up. HeGÇÖs written the upcoming horror film, Altered, directed by Blair Witch Project co-director, Eduardo Sanchez, which lands on December. So if you find yourself in DC this weekend, why not go and take a look-see? Also, it will be screening on the UK at Horrorfest in November. Keep your eyes on the Two Front Teeth website for future screenings and DVD release of the film.

I just checked out the trailer, and it looks like quite a fun little B-movie.

[...] ALTERED is the long overdue follow-up film from Eduardo Sanchez, half of the duo responsible for the sensational BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, the most succesful indie film of all time. Also, it was scripted by Jamie Nash, whom we recently reported about as the writer/director of the Christmas-themed horror-comedy, TWO FRONT TEETH. Both filmmakers reside in the Maryland area, though the film was shot in Florida, where Sanchez went to film school. Although made for a rather substantial budget, the film has been given a direct-to-DVD release. But I’m glad to report that this is one of the few straight-to-DVD releases which is very much worth picking up, and most definetely worth the rental, as it’s smartly conceived and well-made. [...]
